Moulded Fibreglass Grating - An Overview

Continuous glass fibre woven roving's are systematically laid in alternating bi-directional layers within a large heated waffle mould and thoroughly impregnated with a liquid resin. The matrix is then thoroughly compressed to ensure a thorough wetting of the fibres and to remove any voids. The mould is then left for a predetermined time to allow the panel to cure. The panel is then ejected from the mould. This one-piece interwoven square mesh produces two primary benefits: maximum corrosion resistance and high strength multi-directional spanning. The glass fibre structural core provides strength, with the polyester resin providing corrosion resistance.

Benefits of Fibreglass Grating

Fire Resistant
In accordance with the BS 476 & ASTM-E-84 our fibreglass grating achieves a Class 1 Fire Rating. For ultimate fire resistance a Phenolic grating is available. Please contact our sales team for more information.

Corrosion Resistant
Fibreglass Grating will out-perform galvanized and powder coated grating many times over and its chemical inertia gives it an exceptionally long service life. Please ask for a copy of our chemical resistance datasheet.

Slip Resistant
A hard wearing quartz grit is applied to the top surface. This durable gritted surface has been friction tested in accordance with BS7976-2, and ensures an excellent level of slip resistance. This provides positive traction in wet, oily or icy environments.

Impact Resistant
Deflection will occur with the impact of a heavy object. However once the load is removed, fibreglass grating will return to its original shape and position, unlike metallic grating, which remains deformed, and requires costly replacement. Please ask for a copy of our deflection data.

Lightweight
With square metre weights of only 12kg, and 18Kg for our 25mm and 38mm panels fibreglass grating is significantly lighter than conventional open mesh steel grating, allowing easier manual handling and installation.

Solid Top & Structurally Cored Panels

A range of solid top and structurally cored composite panels are available to suit a variety of industrial applications. The inherent strength of these panels is provided by a glass fibre structural mesh core, reinforced with a glass fibre plate applied to one or both of the bearing surfaces. This one-piece moulded panel is rigid, strong, lightweight, non-corrosive, and non-conductive with the added benefit of an anti-slip surface. Un-like conventional concrete covers which can be heavy and awkward to remove, these composite panels can be manufactured to suit material handling regulations.

A conventional solid top panel is ideal for:
Pedestrian gangways.
Access walkways.
Disabled access ramps,
Manhole covers.
Pipe & cable service duct covers

The solid surface allows smoother movement of wheeled traffic, prevents objects falling through and when used as a cover or lid, provides odour retention within storage tanks and chambers.

Solid top panels are available in 29mm, 42mm & 54mm thicknesses. Bespoke panels are available to suit specific applications. Please contact one of our technical advisors for more information.

All panels can be supplied with lifting slots, stainless steel hinges or recessed handles for ease of lifting.

Alternatively, for more demanding applications a Structurally Cored Panel is available. These covers can be manufactured to suit BS EN 124 specifications, and are ideal for use as duct covers within areas subject to vehicular traffic. Structurally cored panels are ideal for highly corrosive environments.
